The Institute of Information Science and Technologies (ISTI), located in the CNR Research Area of Pisa (Italy), is an Institute of the Italian National Research Council (CNR), a Governmental Institution. About 160 researchers are employed at CNR-ISTI, plus a great number of PhD students. It comprises 14 research laboratories and 3 technological centers. The Wireless Networks laboratory participating in ENGAGED is involved in several AAL related projects: PERSONA, universAAL, and Giraff+.

CNR-ISTI is founder member of AALOA (AAL Open Association) and the institute is actively supporting AALOA initiative by allocating resources for AAL projects incubated by AALOA. CNR-ISTI is involved mainly in the Roadmapping and Commuity Building activities and it will help to define the framework under which academics and SMEs and Regions can collaborate thanks to the know-how on the open source software communities and related business models.
